Brave New Workshop
A Fun Description of our 2004 Shows at PBP:
Bemidji, get ready for another hilarious week with the Brave New Workshop! Minnesota's favorite comedy theatre is back for a return engagement, with all-new side-splitting sketches, occasionally outrageous political satire, and the best comedy improvisation in the country. Many shows sold out last year - get your tickets early!
About Summer Workshop/Performance Residencies:
The Brave New Workshop has toured to over 400 colleges in 40 states, performed in Alaska, the Caribbean, and Europe on USO tours; and recently served as the official sketch and improv comedy provider for the Disney Cruise Line. However, for the first time in the theatre's 45 year history, the Brave New Workshop partnered with other arts organizations to bring our unique brand of comedy performance and improv training to Greater Minnesota in 2003.
The BNW's 2003 summer schedule included stops in Albert Lea, Bemidji, Grand Marais, and Grand Rapids. For 2004, summer tour stops include Detroit Lakes and return engagements in Bemidji and Grand Rapids. In each community, the Brave New Workshop will offer hilarious, full-length performances, featuring our best-loved comedy material, custom sketches, and totally improvised scenes based on audience suggestions. Also, the Brave New Workshop will teach improvisation workshops for local youth, using the same time-tested methods and philosophies that have made our improv school one of the nation's best.
About the Brave New Workshop:
As the longest running satirical comedy theater in the country, The Brave New Workshop Theatre is proudly celebrating its 45th year of legendary comedy. Past alums include Louie Anderson, Pat Proft, Al Franken, Tom Davis, Mo Collins (a current cast member for "Mad TV"), Peter MacNichol (currently playing John Cage on "Ally McBeal"), and Melissa Peterman (currently on "Reba"). The BNW was the featured entertainment for Disney Cruise Lines for several years, and the resident comedy-writing team for NPR's "All Things Considered." The Brave New Institute, the BNW's school for improvisation and acting, has repeatedly been ranked one of the top improvisation schools in the country.
The non-profit Brave New Workshop is very proud to be unique among Twin Cities theaters in that it does not apply for or accept government or private grant money of any kind. The theater and institute are supported by ticket revenue, private donations, and the sale of customized entertainment and training programs to corporate clients such as 3M, Wells Fargo, Target Corp., and RBC Dain Raucher. This model allows the theater to operate self-sufficiently, and to fund many youth outreach programs and community projects every year.
Quote:
"We're excited to continue a Brave New Workshop tradition by taking our show on the road. Since 1958 we have been celebrating what it means to be Minnesotan, so it will be a wonderful experience for our actors to reacquaint themselves with the great people of this state. In return, these communities will be treated to the best comedy entertainment available in Minnesota, or the entire country for that matter. Here's to a summer filled with laughter!"
- John Sweeney, owner and Executive Director, Brave New Workshop.
